DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Science and Humanities Department is one of the most successful and inter disciplinary Departments. It is housed in a separate building with excellent classrooms, laboratory and work shop facilities and a conference hall with excellent acoustics and with a seating of 300 students. The Department provides an in-depth knowledge on a wide range of subjects namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Graphics, Basics of Civil and Mechanical Engineering and English. It develops in each student, a mastery of the fundamentals, a capacity of individual and analytical thought, a motivation for learning, an intellectual discipline. The Main objective of the department is to enhance the knowledge of the students to understand the basic concepts of fundamental mathematics, science, and language and enable them to improve their applicative skills in Engineering profession.

The department is headed by a Senior professor strengthened by a team of 36 competent faculty members of which 7 of them are Doctorates. Faculty members are invited as Resourse persons, Chairpersons and for knowledge exchange programme by foreign universities and other reputed institutions. They have also acted as judges and chairmen for various university activities.

The department has an excellent infrastructure with laboratories and workshops equipped with sophisticated analytical and electronic equipments.

  • A state-of-the-art communication skills laboratory with the updated version of Cambridge University’s Learn to Speak English and English in Mind software is available to enhance their skills.

  • The Physics Department has a spacious laboratory where experiments such as particle size determination is done using Helium Neon laser beams; Spectral analysis using spectrometer; thermal conductivity using Lee’s Disc apparatus and properties of matters are implied elaborately.

  • The Chemistry laboratory is fully equipped fully with all analytical instruments such as UV Visible Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Potentiometer, Conductometer, pH meter, etc. required for the conduct of physical and analytical experiments and analysis.

  • Similarly, the workshops are well equipped to conduct the Electrical and Electronics Engineering experiments in addition to regular carpentry, welding, fitting, foundry, etc. The department has an excellent state-of-the-art computer laboratory with the latest, updated versions of software and hardware exclusively for the first year students.
